Farris partner Ron Dueck has co-authored and is presenting a paper at the Canadian Tax Foundation’s 2018 British Columbia Tax Conference on September 24 on the topic of “Taxation of the Token Economy – Cryptocurrency and DLT Tokens”. The paper provides a comprehensive framework for understanding how tokens work, how different types of tokens should be understood and characterized as different types of property, and how the existing tax laws apply to their creation, issuance, receipt and exchange (the “token economy”).
